Alpha Chitin is mastering management and growth of the BSF (Hermetia Illucens) larvae, in its subsidiary SFly Farming. Rearing techniques allow maximizing chitin production within the larvae.
We have developed methods and tools, integrated into our rearing process, allowing an unprecedent control over biological development (reproduction, development, biosafety, dedicated environment) using a specific diet that meets all EU standards, is non-GMO certified, and can be fully organic.
Alpha Chitin has finalized a proprietary extraction and purification method adapted to the larvae characteristics and composition. Its environmental footprint is massively reduced (compared to conventional shrimp shell based methods) and its overall efficiency allows the offering of a very large range of high specification chitosan (from smallest to highest molecular weights, crystallinity can be adjusted within limits, medium to vey high purity levels).

Krill used by Alpha Chitin comes from Antartica. Its fishing is highly scrutinized and subject to many regulations. Fishing techniques and technologies finalized by our partner are less invasive for bigger deep sea fishes and animals, much less destructive than conventional trawl based fishing.
Krill has been specifically prepared and stabilized to criterion defined by Alpha Chitin to allow maximum chitin extraction. We adapt our proprietary extraction and purification method to the specific composition and behaviour of krill. We are able to obtain a very white, quasi exclusively crystalline, small to medium size molecular weight chitosan.

Alpha Chitin currently investigates the production of its own resource for a chitosan focused mycelium. That production will be fully traceable, and the chosen mycelium able to produce significant volumes of high quality chitosan.
We will propose fungi based chitosan with a purity higher than 80%, as well as a mixture of glucan and chitosan. Molecular weight will be small only. Final products can be Vegan certified.
